Scion FR-S Sports Coupe Concept

The new Scion FR-S Concept is not your average Scion. FR-S stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport.  This is Scion's concept of an authentic rear wheel drive sports car with what they call "pure balance". The FR-S is inspired by the Toyota 2000GT concept, with a long low hood, sharp lines and a wide front fascia. Wide front and rear fenders housing huge 20-inch wheels with a staggered aggressive look. The roof line and overall aerodynamic shape of the vehicle allows for the air to flow easily over the car. Bright edgy LED clusters in the front and rear. The FR-S rocks a bold LED "SCION" logo on the back.

Under the hood of the new Scion is a flat 2.0-liter boxer engine borrowed by Subaru. The size and shape of the boxer engine allows Scion to mount the powertrain lower and further back, giving the car a lower center of gravity and balance the weight of the vehicle. The naturally-aspirated engine is the first boxer to incorporate Toyota’s D4-S injection system using both direct and port injection. This results in a lot more horsepower and torque throughout the entire power band while delivering amazing MPG numbers .

To distribute this power, the FR-S will come with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission matched up with a limited-slip differential.

The Scion FR-S is rumored to cost about $30k which sounds about right for a Scion. However this Scion is definitely worth the coin. Scion has designed an awesome rear-wheel drive vehicle with aggressive styling coupled with 'balanced' performance. Hopefully the production vehicle looks close to the concept, because anything else would be disappointing.
